You may be considering becoming a part of the crime scene cleaning industry, but as enticing as crime scene cleanup services might sound, you might want to give it a second thought. Are you truly ready to start cleaning up former people? Many people opt into this business perhaps due to how lucrative it sounds but the truth is they do not know what they signed up for. This is why many new companies fail in the early years of their birth. They fail to do proper research to understand how intricate the job can be.

Many potential crime scene cleaners claim to have undergone online training. In reality, online training is a waste of time. While online training comes in handy when applying for re-certification, it is not the right step to take if you are preparing to join crime scene cleanup services as a fresher. Your best bet is to go for physical training. Otherwise, you will not spend a day on your new job. You are likely to chicken out.

A one-on-one training class can’t be compared to online training. Nothing compares to experiencing the action live. Only then can you decide if you want to go ahead with the job or call it quit. The first assignment might look mild and easy as you may not see the body. It gets messier when you are faced with a crime scene that involves cleaning and removing brain cells hanging off the ceiling and walls in the room. This is a typical gun-related suicide case.

Another tedious job might be moving a king-sized mattress soaked in blood from the fifth-floor apartment to ground level using the stairway. More importantly, you need to tread carefully while handling this mattress so as not to get infected.

Another typical example is cleaning up a bloody bathtub suicide. A live scene will give you a perfect understanding of what you got yourself into. This is unlike what you watch on TV. It’s a bathtub filled with blood and splashes of blood on the wall, floors, and other items around the area. Of course, you had training in a room with fake scenes. Nothing can make you get fully prepared for the job until you walk into the room and experience it yourself. Crime scene cleaning TV shows will only set up a fake scene and do a walk-through without showing what it took to restore the property to its pre-condition.

Don’t let anyone fool you; crime scene cleanup services take more than just training. You need to be prepared physically, mentally, and psychologically. In some cases, you may have to bring down an entire room as scrubbing it will be a waste of time and resources. Demolition is the only way to get rid of the biohazards lurking around the crime scene. This is the case if you are dealing with decomposition.

No doubt, crime scene cleanup is highly lucrative but it takes one with a strong heart to handle this task. Are you prepared for it?
